ESTS Awards Carbon Neutrality Certificates to Gold Hongye Paper Group
Extensive Standard Technical Services Co., Ltd. (ESTS), part of the Cotecna Group, has recently awarded carbon neutrality certificates to Gold Hongye Paper Group Co., Ltd. (GHP) for three Breeze facial tissue products manufactured by GHP.
Certificates
The certified products (Zero-Carbon Tissues) were produced at GHP’s facility in Nantong, Jiangsu Province, China. This facility was recognized as a Jiangsu Provincial Green Factory in 2023 and stands as an industry benchmark for green development.
To achieve carbon neutrality, GHP has developed a comprehensive carbon footprint management plan aligned with its climate commitments. The company prioritizes voluntary emissions reductions as the primary pathway. Key initiatives include:
Equipment Upgrades
Phased out outdated production facilities and introduced advanced, high-efficiency specialized and general-purpose equipment, including variable frequency drives, premium energy-efficient motors, and permanent magnet variable frequency devices.
Process Optimization
Incorporated green and low-carbon principles into product design, by using 100% virgin wood pulp, while optimizing production processes to reduce product material loss and minimize waste generation.
Digital Management
Deployed “Industry 4.0 + AI” to achieve industry-leading automation and data-driven operations, thereby cutting down material usage and energy consumption through efficient management practices.
Energy Use Management
Established energy performance targets, monitoring regularly to identify and eliminate energy wastage caused by leaks and other inefficiencies, while actively advancing energy transition strategies.
Supply Chain Collaboration
Engaged suppliers in low-carbon transformation efforts, quantified and reduced the carbon footprints of key raw materials, and fostered joint initiatives across the value chain to lower collective emissions.
Additionally, APP Group (Asia Pulp & Paper) owns over 293,000 hectares of self-operated forests in China, with accumulated carbon storage reaching 43.7 million tons. Centering on the “Plantation-Pulp-Paper Integration” model, APP aims to mitigate pollution and emissions at the source.
Building on its voluntary emission reduction measures, GHP achieved carbon neutrality for its products by purchasing Verified Carbon Units (VCUs) from the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) Program to offset the emissions.
This successful collaboration between ESTS and GHP sets a benchmark for carbon neutrality practices and showcases the efforts to drive meaningful progress in global climate actions.
